Florence, by the grace of God elect of Glasgow, to all the sons of Holy Mother Church, as well future as present, sends greeting in Christ. Know us to have given and granted, and by this our charter to have made firm, to God and to the church of Saint Mary at Melrose, and to the monks in that place serving God, as free and everlasting alms, the toft in the burgh of Glasgow that Ranulf of Haddington built at the original construction of the burgh for the benefit of the monastic house of Melrose, as fully as he built and held it, just as the charter of our predecessor of good memory, Jocelin bishop of Glasgow, also witnesses the aforementioned toft given to the aforesaid monks. Wherefore we will that the monks of Melrose mentioned above shall hold and possess the aforesaid toft as freely and quietly as they freely and quietly hold and possess any alms. With these witnesses: Ralph, bishop of Down; Ralph, abbot of Kinloss; Master J. the official; Benedict, chaplain; Alexander, chaplain; Master Terri [Theodoric], Hugh Lovell; Walter de Paris; and many others.
